Rivan raises £10M to accelerate modular synthetic fuel innovation

What does Rivan do?

Rivan is a carbon utilization company that designs and manufactures modular synthetic fuel plants. The system integrates off-grid solar power with technologies that capture carbon from the air and produce hydrogen from water, enabling the production of decarbonized, grid-specification synthetic natural gas (SNG).

How much did they raise?

The company raised £10M in a funding round led by Plural, with additional participation from 20VC, NFDG, and angel investors Patrick Collison and John Collison.

What are their plans for the money?

Rivan plans to use the funds to accelerate R&D on its electrolyser, direct-air-capture, and Sabatier reactor modules, and to scale its pilot plant up to 1MW. This initiative aims to improve performance and integration while reducing manufacturing costs ahead of larger commercial deployments in 2026.

What have they achieved so far?

Rivan has already demonstrated cost-effective SNG production using only air and water, showcasing the viability of its innovative, decarbonized fuel production process.
